2020 Jeep Compass vs 2020 Ford Escape

SUVs are all the rage these days, which means there are a ton of models to choose from. Two of the most popular are the Jeep Compass and the Ford Escape. Both of these have nimble engines, a terrific mix of features, and all of the latest safety systems. While there are merits to both of these SUVs, only one can be crowned as the best. For the answer to that question, we are going to compare these two SUVs and see which one comes out on top.

2020 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

Standard across the board of the Jeep Compass is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The Compass comes in either front-wheel or all-wheel-drive, and when you equip the Sport with the all-wheel-drive, you also get a six-speed manual transmission, which is a rarity for the segment. Optional on all front-wheel-drive models is a six-speed automatic, while all-wheel-drive trims get a nine-speed automatic that comes standard on the Limited and Trailhawk trims. No matter what trim level you choose, every Compass that comes with the automatic transmission gets stop/start technology, which shuts off the engine in situations where it would otherwise idle. The technology improves the Compasses fuel economy. When you equip the Compass with all-wheel-drive, it can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

2020 Ford Escape Power & Handling

A few engine options are available for the Ford Escape. On the base S, SE, and SEL trims, you get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder that provides 180 horsepower. The engine feels lacking in power and not all that energetic, but the shedding of weight helps. For improved fuel economy, the 1.5-liter comes with a cylinder-deactivation system, which will automatically shut down one cylinder. Moving up to the SE Sport trim brings a 2.5-liter hybrid engine that never lacks power. The other option is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost, which is available on the SEL and Titanium trims.

2020 Jeep Compass Features & Design

The 2020 Jeep Compass is available in four trim levels, and each comes with an expansive list of features. The base Sport comes with keyless entry, a rearview camera, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Going with the Latitude model brings you automatic headlights, proximity key with push-button start, cornering fog lights, 17-inch wheels, and ambient interior lighting. This trim opens the door for more options, including a power-adjustable driver's seat and navigation. The best thing about the Latitude is the number of safety features, which include blind-spot monitoring and forward-collision alert. Up next is the Trailhawk, which provides leather interior, dual-zone climate control, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Top-line Limited models add to this with an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, and auto-dimming rearview mirror. There are also several options for the Limited, including an Alpine premium audio system, panoramic sunroof, a tow package, and active-safety features like lane-keep assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.

2020 Ford Escape Features & Design

The Ford Escape has some outstanding features as well. Standard on every trim is five selectable driver modes that account for challenging roadways as well as deep snow and sand. The base S Escape comes with Ford's Co-Pilot360 system, which gets you more driver-assist features as well as LED taillights, two USB charge ports, and a Wi-Fi Hotspot. Higher trim levels of the Escape add a power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, navigation, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and parking assist. There is also more luxury features available on higher trims, including leather seats, a B&O premium sound system, chrome exhaust tips, and USB charging ports. You also get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, as well as leather-trimmed sport contoured bucket seats.

Conclusion:

This one is a no-brainier, we are going with the 2020 Jeep Compass! There are far more features on the Compass than on the Escape, and we are also huge fans of the stop/start system for the Compass as well. We can't recommend taking a test drive of this incredible SUV enough, so drop what you're doing and head down to St Clair Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM today to schedule one with our amazing representatives.
